PRESERVING THE PAST FOR THE FUTURE Six months ago I showed the Parish Maintenance Committee the framing of the windows of the church. Joe Holyfield indicated to me that the framing of the windows needed to be replaced. He indicated that the framing is made of white pine and is deteriorating as a result of our wet climate. Joe feels that this deterioration may be not only affecting the framing of the windows but may begin to damage our walls. Therefore, this is not merely a question of esthetics but the damage may cause structural damage to our church. After learning about the deterioration to the windows the Parish Finance Council has voted that the framing of our church windows be replaced. Damage to the windows of the church has been a growing problem since before I arrived at Jesus the Good Shepherd. The previous response was to place a bonding material on the framing to hold the windows together. The windows continue to deteriorate and a more complete solution is now needed. I have checked the plans of the church and the specs show that the architect of our church did order white pine. I have spoken with Don Kneipp who has worked with me on this issue for the last four years. He has indicated that the statute of limitations has passed for both the architect and the construction company of our church. He states that the He does not believe church has legal recourse to hold Bill Brown or Breck Construction as responsible to pay for the replacement of the framing of our windows. Therefore I am asking that the parish assist in financially supporting the replacement of the framing. I request that each family consider giving $100, $500 or $1,000 per month over the next year to have the framing replaced. Any money raised above what is needed for the replacement of the windows will be placed in a JGS Preservation Fund. I will help to see that this fund continues to grow so that the parish will have the necessary funds to take care of future maintenance projects. I ask that you not decrease the amount of your tithing to pay for this project. Your family will receive a letter in the mail which will explain the need for the raising of these funds and how donors will be recognized. I thank you for all that you do to support Jesus the Good Shepherd through talent and treasure. Fr. Mark Watson |
